"title": "Pacific Utility: take the good room with you",
"dek": "A nautical beach-to-home collection becomes an open workshop: six local manufacturing briefs, twelve contributor tasks, signups and reviewed feedback.",
"body": "Pacific Utility is Michael Hoydich’s nautical direction for El Segundo Light Works: camping equipment with a home address. The collection imagines useful objects that can move from an El Segundo beach afternoon to a living room without becoming a different brand. This is an independent product and identity study, not a commercial launch.\n\nThe visual brief is an imagined 1999 Minneapolis agency campaign: the human warmth of a Leo Burnett-style print ad, the sailing blues associated with Ralph Lauren, Japanese attention to serviceability, and the local mix of ocean and practical industry. Those are creative references, not a historical attribution or a claim of commissioned work.\n\nSix objects make up the proposed family. Harbor Base is a rechargeable energy station. Sunboard is a folding solar panel with optional table tray and balcony mounting studies. Cold Box is a small DC compressor refrigerator. Dock Fan is a portable air circulator. Buoy Light is a warm-white rechargeable lantern. Room Current converts between pedestal and desk configurations for the home.\n\nThe shared platform is a design hypothesis: protected DC power from the large base, smaller removable packs for portable objects, keyed connectors, physical controls and an optional home bridge. The live page previews scenes locally; it does not connect to hardware, Bluetooth, Matter, a microphone or AI. A future assistant could propose a reserve-conscious plan for the owner to approve.\n\nThe wind experiment is deliberately simple. A detachable sailcloth scoop could guide ambient air toward a tent opening or open window. The electric fan takes over when the breeze disappears. It is a passive airflow concept, not electricity generation or air conditioning. Airflow, anchoring and comfort need real testing.\n\nDurability is expressed as a service plan: screw-fastened shells, replaceable corner guards and seals, removable grilles, washable straps and a documented parts list. The study claims no tested ingress, battery-safety, salt-resistance, acoustic or drop rating.\n\nThe energy planner makes the proposal easier to examine. Its starting assumptions are a 512 Wh battery with 90% usable energy, a 25 W average cooler load, a 12 W fan, a 4 W light and a single 15 Wh phone top-up. Over eight hours that is 343 Wh of demand and about 118 Wh remaining. The optional 100 W solar scenario uses a 65% factor and equivalent full-sun hours. These are illustrative assumptions, not product specifications or runtime guarantees; charge timing and storage overflow are not modeled.\n\nStyle Guide 02 pairs harbor navy (#102D47), sailcloth (#F1EEE3), Pacific blue (#A5C7DA), signal orange (#CF552E) and brushed gray (#BBC1C1). Editorial serif headlines sit beside clear utility labels. The mark is a spare sail-and-hull drawing. The campaign line is “Take the good room with you.”\n\nThree special-edition studies extend the same platform. Ivrea Office references Olivetti’s office-machine clarity through putty, blue and vermilion. Swedish Skerry brings mist blue, chalk, pale ash and woven handles. Vienna Workshop adds midnight navy, parchment, brushed brass and repeated square geometry. None is an authorized brand collaboration.\n\nThe signature is Michael Hoydich, El Segundo, California. Codex developed the interactive presentation and editorial copy from his October 19, 2026 brief. The three campaign images are AI-generated concept visualizations.\n\nExplore the complete collection, product sheets, energy planner, style guide and editions at https://pointcast.xyz/light-works/pacific-utility/. Machine-readable catalog: https://pointcast.xyz/light-works/pacific-utility/pacific-collection.json. Downloadable style guide: https://pointcast.xyz/light-works/pacific-utility/pacific-style-guide.md.\n\nThe Light Works Site is now public at https://el-segundo-light-works-preview.mhoydich.chatgpt.site. Its Open Workshop at https://el-segundo-light-works-preview.mhoydich.chatgpt.site/build adds six preliminary manufacturing briefs, make/buy BOMs, proposed assembly sequences, validation gates and five official-source local manufacturing candidates in Gardena and Carson. These are uncontacted candidates; no partnership, quote or certification is claimed.\n\nBuoy Light and Dock Fan lead the proposed pilot. Protected battery modules and complete sealed refrigeration assemblies are bought initially, with local fabrication, assembly and repair as the goal. Production CAD, electrical release drawings, vendor quotes and prototype measurements remain open work.\n\nTwelve public tasks welcome designers, makers, engineers, interns and agents, including Grok. The workshop has durable signup, contribution and feedback forms, a human review queue, a public results feed and receipt-based withdrawal. Contact details remain private. Agent instructions, a machine-readable task feed and read-only MCP tools make the work accessible to capable agents without granting buying, outreach, hiring or production-release authority. No Grok account has been connected.\n\nPointCast publishes the full static workshop at https://pointcast.xyz/light-works/pacific-utility/build/ and downloadable briefs beside the collection. Live submissions and reviewed results are hosted on the public Light Works Site.\n",
