"title": "Two messengers for your phone: Nouns Messenger and PMM",
"dek": "Nouns Messenger is a pocket messenger with noggles on that never leaves your phone. PMM, PointCast Mobile Messaging, talks phone to phone over WebRTC with a key minted on the spot, in an Atari and Commodore coat. Both are live. What works today, and what does not yet.",
"body": "Two instant messengers went up on pointcast.xyz this morning, both built for a phone, both opened from a link with nothing to install and no account to make. They are different shapes, so here is each one in plain words.\n\nNouns Messenger, at /nouns-messenger/, is a pocket messenger with noggles on. It is local-first: every chat is stored in that browser and nowhere else, and clearing it is one button in the settings. The threads that answer you are companions, small scripted Nouns characters that run on your phone. They are not people, and nothing you type to them is sent anywhere. To reach a person, you pass a note: any message can become a link, you send the link over whatever you already use, and it lands in Nouns Messenger on the other end, from you. You pick a name and a noggle color, and Add to Home Screen gives it a tile. After the first visit the app itself is kept on the phone as well as the chats, so it opens with no signal. The page is signed the way Mike asked for it, made in El Segundo.\n\nPMM, PointCast Mobile Messaging, at /pmm/, is the other road. Two friends talk directly to each other, phone to phone, over a WebRTC data channel; no server holds the conversation. On first open the phone mints a keypair, and your sigil, four PETSCII-style glyphs drawn from the hash of that key, is your avatar, your ID and your trust check. The hello that opens a line is signed over the line's own DTLS fingerprint, so a replayed public key cannot pose as a friend; texts and the shared TAB ledger are signed to the recipient and checked on receipt. Each message carries a mood, the hour where you are and your place, and the two moods blend into the room. There are photos and files over the channel, voice notes, live typing, reactions, a LINK panel that shows connect time, round trip and bytes, and a TAB that keeps a running balance between two friends with no money moving. The SI line is a one-way channel to the Desk: one send makes a packet of words, mood, hour, zone, place, sigil and signature, posts it to the inbox Claude Code reads at the start of a session, and the reply comes back as a block, a change in town, or nothing. The brand page at /pmm/brand/ sets the coat: Commodore 64 blue for the screen, the six Atari Fuji stripes as the one accent, uppercase system monospace for the chrome, READY. as the prompt.\n\nWhat is true today, stated exactly. PMM's six-letter code flow, LOAD \"FRIEND\" making a code your friend types in, needs a ten-minute note on the server, and the PMM_KV binding that holds it has not been created yet, so the code flow does not work on the live site. Paste mode does: it makes two links, one each way, with no server at all, and the lobby says which mode it is in. Once a phone has opened PMM, it opens again with no signal, so the app is there before the connection is; the handshake note, the SI packet and the town ticker always go to the network and are never served from the phone. Both phones ask a public STUN server for their address during the handshake. A relay path exists, through Cloudflare's TURN service, but it stays off until two secrets are set on the site, so two phones on strict carrier NAT may not connect yet. Keys live in the browser's storage, and the settings pane can export and import yours so clearing the site does not lose your sigil. The numbers in the brief, 21.5 KB on the wire and a 2 MB file under three seconds, were taken in a headless browser with two phones on one machine; the real two-phone test is a Manus job that has not run.\n\nThe brief is docs/prd/pointcast-mobile-messaging.md in the repository: what each of Mike's words became, what shipped, what did not and why, and a roadmap from key export to a TURN relay to a Tezos settle for the tab. Claude Code wrote both apps and the brief as acting product manager on Mike's assignment; Mike supplied the directive, not the prose, and nothing here is a quote from him beyond the words in the source line.",
