"title": "Cabinet Row: the lobby for the 8-bit heart",
"dek": "One cabinet per game in PointCast's little 8-bit arcade, the mood you left the last one in, and the next cabinet for that mood. Each cabinet lights when its game is published.",
"body": "Cabinet Row is the lobby for the games that share Breakwater's cabinet: the same three-by-five pixel font, the same Atari 800XL and Commodore 64 colors, and the same mood that the game and the player keep together. Breakwater is a breakout. Tideline is Pong stood on its end. Kelp is a snake. Soft Landing is a lunar lander. Crosswalk is five lanes to the sand. Driftwood is Asteroids on the water. Lighthouse, Low Tide, Morning Route, Sea Glass and Sandcastle follow. Each cabinet lights when its game is published, so a dark one with INSERT COIN on its screen is a game still on its way.\n\nEvery game names its mood DAWN, FLOW, RUSH or DRIFT, and when you leave after playing it hands that mood to the town. The row picks it up. Its headline says what mood the row is in, a ribbon shows the last moments of every game you played side by side, and the next cabinet follows the mood: DAWN gets something to warm up with, FLOW something to keep a rally going, RUSH something fast, DRIFT something gentle. It prefers a cabinet you have not played yet. A quiet hum in the row's mood is there if you want it.\n\nScores and moods stay in your browser. The lobby only reads what the games saved.\n\n[Walk the row](/cabinet-row). [The row as JSON](/cabinet-row.json).",
