Die.

Four dice on a felt table. Each die picks a different element of a four-bar phrase. Roll, the page plays the phrase. Re-roll, a different phrase plays. Different every time, always in key.

Tap a die to lock it before rolling. Locked dice keep their value.

What each die means

  • Die 1 — Key. 1 → C major · 2 → G major · 3 → D major · 4 → A minor · 5 → E minor · 6 → C pentatonic
  • Die 2 — Tempo. 1 → 60 BPM (slow) · 2 → 80 · 3 → 100 · 4 → 120 · 5 → 140 · 6 → 160 (urgent)
  • Die 3 — Rhythm. Six four-bar rhythmic patterns: straight quarters, syncopated 8ths, dotted, triplet feel, dense fills, sparse long notes.
  • Die 4 — Contour. Melodic shape: ascending, descending, arch, valley, zigzag, drone-around-tonic.

Every combination produces a valid 4-bar phrase in the chosen key — 6⁴ = 1,296 possible phrases. Lock a die you like, roll the rest, and you can ratchet toward a phrase you keep.
