Pong stood on its end

Tideline

Portrait Pong in Atari 800XL or Commodore 64 blue: your paddle below, the house above, two big digits a side, rally to 11. The house paddle's skill follows the mood you keep together, DAWN, FLOW, RUSH or DRIFT. A CALM dial never ends a game.

THE FIRST GOOD MINUTE

Here’s how it goes.

Try a round ↗
  1. 01

Pick 800XL or C64 and let it boot, or tap to skip the READY prompt.

  2. 02

Tap to serve. Where the ball meets your paddle sets the angle; every volley adds speed; a point resets it.

  3. 03

Watch the mood word in the top bar: the house gets sharper in RUSH and softer in DRIFT. Try CALM for a table with no game over, or 2UP for a friend.

Your controls
  • Move the mouse or drag anywhere on the field to steer your paddle; tap or click to serve on your serve.
  • Keys: arrows or A/D steer, Space serves, P pauses, F full screen, M sound, C scanlines, 1 and 2 switch machines, 3 turns the mood dial, 4 toggles 2UP for a second person on the top paddle (J/L steer, I serves).
