A pixel-dithered specimen sheet of bags in black, cobalt and yellow: a pickleball backpack with two paddle handles, a canvas grocery tote with a baguette and flowers, a holey beach tote, a soft cooler with a can, a rope-strap sling, a duffel, a roll-top dry bag, pickleballs, a water bottle, keys on a carabiner, and a phone on a lanyard.

A day around here moves: court at seven, Trader Joe’s at ten, sand by two, a car trunk the whole way. No single bag does all of it, so we picked one for each moment.

Ten bags and one chair, all widely sold, checked against the makers’ own pages on September 29. The court bag has to hold a paddle and keep sweaty clothes apart. The grocery bag has to stand up in a cart. The beach bag has to rinse off with a hose.

Desk review from maker product pages, checked September 29, 2026, plus news coverage for the Trader Joe’s bag, which isn’t sold online. PointCast has not tested these bags. Picks are judged on fit for each moment of the day, size, materials, care and price; there is no star rating because nothing was handled.

Black Selkirk Core Line sling bag with a single shoulder strap and side mesh bottle pocket
Product photo: Selkirk

01 / Court · Best court bag under $50

Core Line Sling Bag

$40Selkirk

Padded paddle pocket · bottle pocket to 24 oz · strap converts sling ↔ backpack

Most mornings you carry one paddle, one ball, keys, a bottle. That’s this bag. It wears across the body walking in from the lot, the strap unzips into a backpack if you’re riding a bike, and a grab handle hangs it on the court fence instead of the ground.

The catch. It fits one paddle, by Selkirk’s own description. No room for a backup or your partner’s.

The everyday court bag. Start here.

Black JOOLA Vision II pickleball backpack with a white JOOLA label on the front
Product photo: JOOLA

02 / Court · Best for league nights

Vision II Backpack

$59.95JOOLA

Padded laptop sleeve · ventilated shoe partition · side mesh bottle pocket

When court is on the way to or from work, you need more room. This one holds several paddles, a laptop in its own padded sleeve, and your shoes in a vented section of their own, so the work clothes don’t smell like the court.

The catch. JOOLA doesn’t list capacity or weight, and the listed 2.0-inch depth can’t be right. See the size in person before you rely on it. The original Vision II listing is sold out; this is JOOLA’s current listing.

Worth it if you play before or after work.

A row of blue Sea to Summit Evac roll-top dry bags in six sizes
Product photo: Sea to Summit

03 / Court · Best sweat-clothes bag

Evac Dry Bag, 13L

$39.95*Sea to Summit

Recycled 70D nylon · roll-top · taped seams · air-release base

This is the pod nobody sells with a court bag. Wet shirt, damp socks and the towel go in, you roll the top, and nothing touches the car seat or the groceries. The base lets air squeeze out, so it packs flat.

The catch. Because it’s waterproof, it also traps smell. Empty it when you get home, not tomorrow.

The cheapest upgrade to any bag on this list.

04 / Trader Joe’s · Best $9 on this list

Reusable Insulated Bag

$8.99*Trader Joe’s

Padded walls · zippered insulated lid · over-the-shoulder straps · inside pocket

The right cold bag for a Trader Joe’s run is the one they sell at the register. It fits a full frozen aisle, zips shut, and the straps go over your shoulder for the walk from the far end of the lot.

The catch. You can only buy it in the store, and new colors sell out and get resold online at silly markups. If the lime green is gone, the standard colors do the same job.

Buy two. Leave one in the trunk.

Black Standard Baggu nylon shopping bag hanging flat
Product photo: Baggu

05 / Trader Joe’s · Best everyday tote

Standard Baggu

$16Baggu

Recycled ripstop nylon · holds 50 lb · folds into a 5 × 5 in pouch · machine washable

It holds what two or three plastic grocery bags would and folds into a pouch the size of your palm, so there’s always one in the glovebox. Throw it in the wash when the strawberries leak.

The catch. It’s open at the top with no insulation. Groceries only; the frozen stuff goes in the bag above.

The bag you’ll actually have with you.

Mushroom-beige Original Bogg Bag, a molded tote with round holes and two handles
Product photo: Bogg

06 / Beach · Best beach bag

Original Bogg Bag

$90*Bogg

EVA foam · stands on its own · 2 clear insert pouches · 3 lb empty

Sand is the enemy of every other bag here, and this one doesn’t care. It stands up on its own, sand falls out through the holes, and you hose it off at the end of the day. The two clear pouches keep phone and keys out of the sunscreen.

The catch. It weighs 3 lb empty and has no closure, so valuables sit in the open. Buy from boggbag.com: lookalike stores show up in search results, and returns close after 15 days with shipping on you.

Worth $90 if you’re on the sand every weekend.

Natural canvas L.L.Bean Boat and Tote with olive-green handles and base trim
Product photo: L.L.Bean

07 / Beach · Best classic

Boat and Tote, Large

$49.95*L.L.Bean

24 oz cotton canvas · double-layer base · long-handle option · monogram

It’s been sewn in Maine since 1944, and it wears in instead of out. It’s tall enough for a rolled towel and a thermos. It’s also the only bag here you’d monogram and hand down.

The catch. Canvas soaks up water and wet sand, and the top is open. It’s a beach-parking-lot bag, not one to set down at the waterline.

The one to buy if you want it to last twenty years.

Black Helinox Chair One with mesh panels on a blue aluminum frame
Product photo: Helinox

08 / Beach · Best chair that packs like a bag

Chair One

$109.95Helinox

Aluminum frame · holds 320 lb · mesh panels · daisy-chain case · 5-year warranty

A chair is part of the kit here: courtside while you wait, on the sand, at the park. Packed, this one is the size of a water bottle and clips onto any bag above by its case. It sets up in about the time it takes to find your sunglasses.

The catch. The seat is only 9 inches off the ground, and the thin legs sink into soft sand. Helinox sells ball feet and a ground sheet to fix that, so a real beach setup costs more than $110.

Best for the court and the park. Add the feet if it’s going to the sand.

Charcoal YETI Hopper Flip 12 soft cooler with a shoulder strap
Product photo: YETI

09 / The car · Best trunk cooler

Hopper Flip 12

$250YETI

DryHide shell · ColdCell foam · leakproof HydroLok zipper · wide flip-top

This is the one bag that lives in the car. The leakproof zipper means melted ice doesn’t end up in the trunk carpet. It’s small enough to carry one-handed from the lot to the courts or the sand, and wide enough at the top to reach in without unpacking.

The catch. It costs $250 for a 12-can-class cooler, and the 24-can figure assumes no ice. YETI’s page blocked our checker; we confirmed the price from YETI’s own product data and the specs from coverage quoting YETI.

Buy it if you’ll use it every week. A cheaper soft cooler covers occasional use.

Green plaid wool Topologie Bottle Sacoche Medium, a small zippered barrel bag
Product photo: Topologie

10 / Errands · Best hands-free sling

Bottle Sacoche Medium

$82*Topologie

Bottle or umbrella sleeve · two zip compartments · key hook · Wares strap system

This is the bag that made us want to write this. It’s small, with a sleeve for a 500 ml–1 L bottle and a key hook, and it clips onto Topologie’s interchangeable straps. You buy one strap, and every Topologie bag after that clips onto it. Phone, keys, a bottle, both hands free for a coffee and a dog leash.

The catch. The strap isn’t included. The real price is about $120 or more, so budget for the strap on your first order.

The best everyday sling on this list, once you add the strap.

Dark gray Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 40L with red handles and a blue Patagonia logo
Product photo: Patagonia

11 / The trip · Best weekend bag

Black Hole Duffel 40L

$165Patagonia

100% recycled body, lining and webbing · TPU-film laminate · backpack straps · Ironclad Guarantee

It’s carry-on size for most airlines, and the laminate shrugs off a wet dock, a truck bed or a sandy trunk. The shoulder straps stow when you don’t need them. When it wears out, Patagonia repairs it.

The catch. 40 L is right for a weekend and tight for anything longer. The 55 L costs more but covers a week.

The bag for the weekend trip.

WHAT NOBODY MAKES YET

One strap
for the whole day.

Put all eleven picks in one trunk and the problem shows. Each bag has its own strap, its own clip and its own idea of where the phone goes. The paddle bag doesn’t talk to the cooler, and the tote can’t hang from the fence.

The bag we want is a system: one strap and one clip, with pods that hook on and off. A court pod with a vented pocket for sweaty clothes, a grocery pod, a sand-shedding beach pod, a pocket for phone and glasses, and a trunk rail where they all live between trips. Nobody around here sells that yet. If you’d carry it, tell us on Shortwave.
