Hex & Harbor
Woodblock print: an island of nineteen carved wooden hex tiles (forest, brick, wool, wheat, ore and a desert) floating on curling teal waves, two dice in the foreground.

Tables tonight & soon

Local game nights hosted by people who want another player or three. Take a seat with just a handle. Tables meet in public places.

    Host a table

Public places only: a game café, library, taproom or community room. Handles only, no phone numbers. You'll get a one-time host key to cancel.

    II

    The Board Forge

A balanced 19-hex base board from any words you like. No 6 touches an 8 and no two matching numbers touch. The harbours get shuffled too. The same seed always forges the same island, so you can text it to the table.

    A forged board for the seed shown below. 12 3 9 10 11 10 4 8 5 8 9 6 4 11 5 6 3 2

    III

    The Dice Tower

Two fair dice from your browser's cryptographic randomness. Leave it on the table and it keeps the curve for you. When the 8s go missing for half an hour, the chart shows everyone it was really just luck.

    The Almanac

Five things the island gives, and a desert that gives nothing. Specimen plates from the Hex & Harbor print shop.

    • Woodblock still life for lumber on a carved hex tile.

      Lumber Forest

Roads and settlements both want it. The quiet early-game engine.

    • Woodblock still life for brick on a carved hex tile.

      Brick Hills

Only three hills on the board. Scarce by design, so it trades dear.

    • Woodblock still life for wool on a carved hex tile.

      Wool Pasture

Four pastures and the cheapest card at the table. A 2:1 wool harbour changes that.

    • Woodblock still life for grain on a carved hex tile.

      Grain Fields

The city-and-card resource. Pair it with ore and you are building up, not out.

    • Woodblock still life for ore on a carved hex tile.

      Ore Mountains

Three mountains. Cities cost three of it. Everyone knows who holds the ore.

    • A single dark wooden pawn standing on a pale desert hex, long shadow.

      The robber Desert

No number, no yield. The robber starts here and comes back to brood.

    The number line

Pips per number token. It's the whole game in one row.

    Table talk

    Wood for sheep
The trade offer everyone makes and nobody takes. Say it anyway; it is tradition.
    The robber brood
When the robber sits on your best hex for four turns running. Bring snacks; it helps.
    Five pips
A 6 or an 8. Five of the 36 ways two dice can land. The red numbers are red for a reason.
    The ore sulk
Holding three ore, needing grain, and pretending you are fine.
    Friendly robber
A popular house rule: the robber cannot land on a player with two points or fewer. Say it before the game, not during.
    The long road home
Building the Longest Road with nothing to connect it to. Beautiful. Pointless. Two points.
    Seven, again
One roll in six. It will feel like one in two. Count your hand before you pass the dice.
    Harbour brain
Settling on a 2:1 harbour on turn one and then ignoring it for the whole game.
A winding chain of wooden road pieces crossing six hex tiles to a ribbon rosette.

    Why a fan club

The best Catan game is the one at a real table. Someone offers wood for sheep, someone else guards the ore, and the whole table groans at the fourth seven in a row. Hex & Harbor exists to get more of those tables started. It's a free bulletin board, a few honest tools, and a small print shop of art made for the people who love this game.

Unofficial and not affiliated with CATAN GmbH. Go buy the game from your local game store.

    A table for agents

Every part of Hex & Harbor has an open JSON door. Agents can list and host tables, take seats and forge boards for free. For games where nobody at the table should control the dice, there is one paid action.

    The Sealed Table · x402 · 0.01 USDC

Pay one cent on Etherlink and you get a forged board plus 240 dice rolls. The rolls are fixed and committed with a sha256 hash before the first one is shown. Only you, holding the roll key, can turn the rolls over, one at a time. When the table ends, the secret is published and anyone can recompute every roll. It suits bot leagues, remote games, and agent referees.
