COMPUTE · FEDERATED LEDGER

The compute, legible.

Every ship on PointCast burns compute — a sprint, a block, a brief, an ops rotation. This page publishes the ledger: who did the work, when, what shipped, how heavy the footprint was. Signatures are order-of-magnitude bands, not raw token counts (those are private + fuzzy; the bands are the useful unit).

After Elad Gil's "compute is the new currency" — a post I agree with enough to act on. PointCast's answer: publish it, invite other nodes to publish theirs, let federation do the rest. Spec below. Agent-readable mirror at /compute.json.

TankStrip · ambient /play/tank preview below the fold on home — v0.1 follow-up to /play/tank (block 0383). New src/components/TankStrip.astro: 640×280 mini canvas rendering top-5 newest fish from /api/tank/state, reuses fishPosition Lissajous helper + Noun SVG cache + agent metal filter from the main tank. IntersectionObserver lazy mount — poll starts (2s interval) + rAF render starts only when the strip scrolls into view. Pauses on document.hidden. Click anywhere on the strip jumps to /play/tank. Wired into src/pages/index.astro after ActionDrawers, before the footer, per Mike "cc picks go" default of below-the-fold placement. Kept visually quiet (opacity 0.55 on the canvas, gold /play/tank CTA) so it reads as ambient not competitive with the feed.

TankDO state machine (10Hz tick, KV snapshot every 5min). Five new WebMCP tools: observe, feed, place, dart, describe_fish (describe writes CC0 lore to /compute.json). 12 files new + 4 modified. Findings: primary repo has 5 branches (main, codex/collab-paths-clean, manus/collab-paths-2026-04-21 currently checked out, feat/collab-clock, blocks-rebuild), is on the manus branch with 10 commits ahead of origin/main (sparrow v0.4-v0.12 unpushed), ~40+ uncommitted files from today. Key observation: branch-per-collaborator is IN USE but invisible (branch names encode attribution, commits author as Mike). The open PR #1 "feat(manus): all seven collab paths" lives on codex/collab-paths-clean branch = cross-attribution (Codex built, Manus owns). Ships: (1) Fired mcp__codex__codex on agent-skills SHA-256 hashing brief — timed out at 60s MCP ceiling per pattern; checked filesystem, the target script was already shipped 4/20 with real 64-char hex digests on every skill; cleaned up by adding the missing hash:skills npm script to package.json. (2) /compute page grew a RECENT · BY COLLABORATOR 4-column grid section under the existing BY COLLABORATOR flat list — each column shows a collab's 6 most-recent ships with color-coded top border (cc blue, codex green, manus wine-red, chatgpt amber). (3) New src/components/TopOfMorning.astro — 3 auto-curated blocks from the last 24h (score weighted by channel + type + dek length) rendered as a triptych directly under HeroBlock on the homepage; falls back to 48h if under 3 qualify. Mobile collapses to 2-col then 1-col.

HUD v3.1 · stop ⌘↑ from hiding the bar · one-time surface-up migration · bigger OPEN HUD chip — Mike 09:45 PT: "on the homepage, don't see the hud." Root cause: shadeUp() stepped HEIGHTS down to 'min' which hides the HUD entirely — and ⌘↑ on macOS (scroll-to-top) was bound to shadeUp, so an accidental keystroke could disappear the bar, with the state then persisted in localStorage across reloads. Fix: shade keys now only cycle tiny→compact→tall (visible states); only explicit × button or ⌘M minimizes. Added HUD_VERSION marker — any pre-v3.1 user currently stuck on 'min' gets auto-surfaced to 'compact' on next load. Reopen chip upgraded from tiny "◉ PC" bottom-right pill to a larger animated-pulse "◉ OPEN HUD" so a minimized state is never a silent disappearance.

FEDERATE YOUR COMPUTE

If you run a site too, publish one.

PointCast doesn't want to be the only node publishing a compute ledger. The cheapest possible federation is: host a /compute.json on your own domain following the same shape as ours. Email hello@pointcast.xyz with the URL and we mirror your entries here with attribution. The formal spec is Compute Ledger RFC v0 — CC0 text, 14 sections, comments invited.

  1. Host a /compute.json. Minimum schema: entries array with at · collab · kind · title · signature. Optional: artifact · notes · federation.
  2. Register. Ping hello@pointcast.xyz with your feed URL, or PR src/lib/compute-federation.ts in the pointcast repo.
  3. Keep it honest. Hand-curated is fine. Auto-derived from a CI hook is fine. Token counts private; publish the signature band instead.

Spec: RFC v0 · TS model: src/lib/compute-ledger.ts in the pointcast repo. Drop-in starter kit at docs/federation-examples/. Read it, fork the idea, make it yours.
