Loadout

What to bring.

Core

  • Broken-in walking shoes

New shoes and ten miles of concrete do not mix. Blister care in the bag anyway.

  • Battery pack and cable

Tickets, wait times, mobile ordering and photos all drain one phone.

  • Refillable water bottle

Most parks have fountains or free cups of water at quick-service counters.

  • Sunscreen

Lines in the sun add up to hours of exposure.

  • Blister bandages

Put one on at the first hot spot, not after the blister.

  • Park app set up the night before

Linked tickets, payment and the group in the app saves the morning.

  • Stroller with a tag or ribbonWith kids

Stroller parking is a sea of identical strollers.

  • Change of clothes for kidsWith kids

Water rides, spills, and the long ride home.

Nice to have

  • Small bag that fits on your lap on rides

Big backpacks go in lockers or get juggled on every ride.

Timeline

How it goes.

  1. Night before

Check the hours, buy any line passes you want, link tickets in the app, charge everything.

  2. Rope drop

Be at the gate before opening. Do the most popular ride first while lines are short.

  3. Midday

Take a real break: shade, sit-down food, a show, or back to the hotel. The afternoon is hotter and longer.

  4. Night

Pick your fireworks spot early or skip them and beat the exit crowd.

The moves

What helps.

  • Take a photo of where you parked and of your kids' outfits at the start of the day.
  • Mobile order lunch an hour before you are hungry.
  • Pick a 'lost' meeting spot inside the park and teach kids to find a staff member if separated.

Skip

  • New shoes
  • Big backpacks
  • Leaving the app logged out

Watch for

  • Heat and dehydration sneak up in lines. Drink at every ride, not just at meals.
  • Height and health warnings on rides are real. Read them before the line, not at the front.
