The tradition · since 2002
Hawaiʻi Island community seed exchanges
Hawaiʻi Island's first community seed exchange was held in Kona in 2002; later swaps with partners such as The Kohala Center let growers trade seeds and cuttings of locally adapted food crops.

How a note would work
Cuttings are earned by bringing clean, pest-free seeds or cuttings to a swap and spent on other growers' varieties. They are never bought or cashed out.
