TC-09 · Little league to varsity · two games · one long afternoon
Baseball doubleheader, from the stands
A short aluminum bleacher behind a chain-link backstop, a sun that moves across the field, and foul balls with no warning.
- Hours
- 4–6
- Surface
- Bleacher or lawn chair on grass
- Kit
- 8 core · 1 nice
Sit where the shade will be in the fourth inning, not where it is at first pitch.
Loadout
What to bring.
Core
- Camp chair
Many fields have more fence line than bleacher. Bring your seat.
- Clamp umbrella
Afternoon sun moves across the field. Shade you can aim beats shade you hope for.
- Sunscreen
Six hours of sun. Reapply between games.
- Small cooler with water and lunch
Concessions at little league fields can be thin or cash-only.
- Small bills
Snack shack, raffle tickets, team fundraiser.
- Phone battery pack
Scoring apps, video, and the ride plan.
- Real food between gamesParent of a player
Sandwich and fruit, not just sunflower seeds. Ask the coach about timing.
- Scorebook, pencil and a clipboardKeeping the book
Paper still works when the app freezes. Bring a pencil with an eraser.
Nice to have
- Your own glove
For foul balls behind the dugout, and for catch with siblings between games.
Timeline
How it goes.
- Before
Check the field map and which side is home. Note where the sun sets relative to the bleachers.
- Game one
Set up behind the protective fence or well down the line, not in an open gap.
- Between games
Move your chair to follow the shade. Feed your player while the field gets dragged.
- After
Help rake, collect bases or pick up trash. Little league fields run on parents.
The moves
What helps.
- Watch the batter, not your phone, when you sit anywhere a foul ball can reach.
- Cheer the whole team. Never coach your kid from the fence during an at-bat.
- Bring a book for the stretch when your player sits a few innings.
Skip
- Sitting in open gaps by the dugout
- Glass bottles
- Umbrellas in the bleachers
Watch for
- Foul balls and errant throws hit spectators every season. Sit behind netting with small kids.
- Heat builds over a doubleheader. Players in dark catcher's gear are at higher risk; offer water every inning break.
