The Freecycle Network

Deron Beal started The Freecycle Network in Tucson, Arizona, in May 2003 as an email group for giving away usable items instead of landfilling them; it is a gift system with groups worldwide.

How a note would work

In a gift version, Gifts simply count items kept out of landfill: earned by passing on usable things and spent on requesting what neighbours offer. They are never bought or cashed out.

Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
