LETS (Local Exchange Trading System, 'Green Dollars')
Michael Linton started the first LETS in Canada's Comox Valley in 1983, recording trades as 'green dollar' credits and debits on a central ledger, with no interest; the model spread worldwide.

How a note would work
Members earn Leaves by offering goods or services, recorded as credits, and spend them on other members' offers; every account starts at zero. Leaves are never bought or cashed out.
Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
