The tradition · since the early 1980s
Time banking (Time Dollars)
Law professor Edgar S. Cahn developed Time Dollars in the early 1980s: members earn a credit for each hour spent helping someone and spend it on an hour of help. The model spread worldwide.

How a note would work
Hours are earned by helping another member, from childcare to tutoring, and spent on an hour of anyone's help; every hour counts the same. They are never bought or cashed out.
Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
