Toy libraries (Toy Loan)

The first toy library is usually traced to Los Angeles in 1935, when a Depression-era program began lending toys; it continues as the county's Toy Loan Program. Sweden's Lekotek followed in 1963.

How a note would work

Plays are earned by donating, cleaning or mending toys for a lending library and spent on borrowing toys and games. They are never bought or cashed out.

Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
