The tradition · since 2001
BookCrossing
Ron Hornbaker launched BookCrossing in Kansas City, Missouri, in April 2001: readers label a book with a unique ID and release it in a public place, and finders log it online to follow its journey.

How a note would work
Chapters are earned by registering and releasing a book for the next reader and spent on finding and logging books that others release. They are never bought or cashed out.
Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
