Tool lending libraries

The Berkeley Public Library opened its Tool Lending Library in 1979, letting residents borrow hand and power tools with a library card; it is among the oldest tool libraries still running.

How a note would work

Bolts are earned by donating, sharpening or repairing tools for a lending library and spent on borrowing them. They are never bought or cashed out.

Design concept inspired by this tradition, not issued by or for the people who keep it. Not legal tender, not for sale, no cash value, no redemption and no investment rights.
