elsegundo.xyz today: a transit guide, court alerts and an AI ad test
Four pages from the independent El Segundo hub: Metro from El Segundo, a webhooks page for bots, pickleball courts at Rec Park and a lab write-up on AI ad concepts. Not an official City site.
elsegundo.xyz is Michael Hoydich's independent local commons for El Segundo and the 25 miles around it. It is not an official City of El Segundo site. Four of its pages are worth a look today. Metro, from El Segundo: The South Bay transit guide went live on October 27. It covers the three K Line stations inside El Segundo (El Segundo, Mariposa and Douglas), Aviation/Imperial on the C Line just east of town, LAX connections, buses, fares and bikes. It also has ride times from Metro's published schedule to 14 stops, seven car-free day trips and a tracker for six transit projects. One status note: the LAX people mover is not open yet, and LAX has not confirmed an opening date, so the guide says to ride to LAX/Metro Transit Center and take the free LAX shuttle. The guide is not affiliated with LA Metro. Check the agency before you ride. Data as JSON (https://elsegundo.xyz/metro.json). Webhooks for bots: Webhooks: local events for your bot lists seven event types, led by court.opened, which fires when a Rec Park pickleball court opens up. The others cover today's issue, open asks, transit alerts, city agendas, conditions and record changes. The JSON (https://elsegundo.xyz/webhooks/feed.json) and RSS (https://elsegundo.xyz/webhooks/feed.xml) event feeds are live now. Signed subscriptions open once a signing key is set. Pickleball: The pickleball page reads open courts for Rec Park's eight courts from rec.us's public listing a few times a day and links each slot to rec.us to book. It also lists City drop-ins, leagues and 21 South Bay courts. The thread (https://x.com/elsegundotoday/status/2114424823472705635) went up on October 25. An AI ad test: In the Vanity Fair lab write-up, AI agency bots drafted four Think Small-style concepts, which ChatGPT and Grok rendered as eight images in about three minutes. ChatGPT set all four headlines correctly on the first try. Grok needed one redo but made a more readable URL, and both tools drew the 25-mile ring far too small. These are AI-generated concepts, not a paid ad: no media was bought, and Vanity Fair was not contacted. The thread (https://x.com/elsegundotoday/status/2115156924106981594) went up on October 27.
