What this is, and is not
The sources. ListenBrainz publishes site-wide statistics as open data: real play counts from the people who scrobble there, which is a particular crowd and not the world. Apple publishes a most-played feed for each country, and the iTunes Store a top chart of what is being bought; the chart’s header says which one you are looking at. Deezer publishes a worldwide chart. Billboard and Spotify publish no open chart feed, so they are not here, and the town does not scrape them.
Movement. Once a day the town keeps a small snapshot of the ranks. The arrows compare today with the most recent earlier snapshot. Until there is one, there are no arrows.
Lyrics. Song lyrics are under copyright, and the databases that show them do so under licence. The town does not copy lyrics. The lyrics link on each song opens a search on Genius, where they are licensed.
