ESTABLISHMENT LOOP

SOURCE BLOCK
  1. 01

    Read the site

    Before buying

Map sun, drainage, wind, foot traffic, and how wild the place is allowed to look.

If water sits after rain, raise the planting or choose the heavier-drainage plants.
  2. 02

    Plant with rain

    Nov-Feb

Install smaller plants into cool soil, mulch lightly with mineral material, and water deeply to settle roots.

Roots should be firm before the first long dry stretch.
  3. 03

    Step water down

    First spring-summer

Water less often but more deeply. Do not train roots to expect constant surface water.

Leaf curl at noon is less important than overnight recovery.
  4. 04

    Let value stay visible

    Year two

Keep seedheads, flowerheads, and loose scrub texture where they help insects and birds.

Prune for paths, safety, and neighbor legibility, not for catalog neatness.
