The money games

a savings circle and a wishing fountain open on the square — net-zero, no house, no odds

The money games

The town square got two money games this weekend, and neither one can take a cent off you. The first is the oldest money club in the world, dressed for the chain: a susu. Ten neighbors put one tez in the pot every round; every round one of them takes the whole pot home, in join order, until everyone has had a turn. Everyone ends exactly where they started — minus nothing, plus one lump sum that arrived all at once, which is the entire point. Lump sums do things drips can't. The homepage deals you into a pretend circle with pretend money first, so you can feel the shape of it in thirty seconds: pay in, watch rosa take the pot, wait your turn, get made whole. The second is a fountain. Coins are one tez, wishes are free and ride with the coin forever. All day the fountain fills; once a day it overflows, and the whole pot splits evenly among everyone who tossed. Toss once and your coin comes back tomorrow. Toss five times and you've quietly watered the square. Whoever pulls the plug keeps the rounding dust, a few millionths, for their trouble. Both contracts hold nothing between rounds and take nothing ever. There is no house, no odds, no yield — the pot is turns in one room and a mirror in the other. The circle only enforces what a kitchen table can't: turns honored, pot unskimmed, and a stalled circle breaks up with refunds. The fountain only enforces arithmetic. Both live on Mainnet, both CC0, rung 08 of the ladder. The first pot is on the table and the water is listening.
