The Almanac: 52 notes for the South Bay year, a wheel to spin and a radio to tune
Currency Builder's fourth collection gives every week of the year its own note, earned by noticing: whales both ways, grunion nights, the El Segundo blue, eight meteor showers and the earliest sunset.
The Almanac is the fourth Currency Builder collection: 52 notes, one for each week of the South Bay year. Each one is earned by noticing that week's sign and logging it in a town almanac. Week 1 is the Quadrantids; week 2 and week 9 are the gray whales going south and coming back north; week 24 is the El Segundo blue on the dunes by the airport; week 49 is the earliest sunset, two weeks before the solstice; week 52 is the Christmas Bird Count. Notes trade one for one and are never sold, and fences, trails and closed seasons outrank any note. Every note carries a different actual Noun, drawn from its on-chain seed and matched by trait: whales for the migrations, a jellyfish for the by-the-wind sailors, a trash can for Coastal Cleanup Day, a dinosaur for the bird count. Each note draws the same 52-tick year wheel with its own week lit, and each has an engraved Security Edition face. Every week's page cites a source for its event; dates are typical for Southern California and shift from year to year. Two ways in. The Almanac Wheel spins the year and lands on a week, and you can stamp the weeks you have actually seen. KALM Almanac Radio is a 1950s tabletop set with a station for every week from 540 to 1700 kHz: static and a whistle between stations, a small tune and the sounds of the week when you lock on, a magic-eye tube, and an announcer who reads the note. All of the sound is made in the browser. Design concepts only: not legal tender, no cash value. Nouns art is CC0; not affiliated with Nouns DAO.
